Green homes, built by master craftsmen.
Veritas Custom Homes designs and builds high-performance custom homes in and around Ann Arbor — homes that are quieter, healthier, more durable, and dramatically more efficient than conventional construction.
Sub-1.0 ACH50 results on certified blower-door tests.
Filtered fresh-air ventilation built into every home.
Significantly reduced heating and cooling loads year-round.
Master craftsmanship, guided by building science.
A truly green home is not a checklist of products — it is an integrated system. Every detail of the wall assembly, the air barrier, the insulation strategy, the mechanical systems, and the materials we choose contributes to how the home performs over its lifetime.
As custom home builders rooted in trust and transparency, we treat building performance the same way we treat finish carpentry: with rigor, attention to detail, and pride in the craft.
Verified, not assumed
We use blower-door testing, energy modeling, and on-site quality control to confirm performance — no guesswork, no surprises after closing.
Built to last generations
Healthy assemblies dry properly, resist mold, and protect framing. A high-performance home is also a more durable home.
Comfort you can feel
No drafts, no cold corners, no rooms that never warm up. Even temperatures, quiet interiors, and clean air change how a home lives.
One trusted partner
From early design conversations to final commissioning, your green-build expertise comes from the same team building your home.
The building science behind a Veritas green home.
Each of these systems works in concert with the others. Skip one, and the rest underperform. Get them right together, and the home transforms.

AeroBarrier: precision air sealing, verified to the leak.
Veritas is a licensed AeroBarrier dealer. AeroBarrier is a patented, computer-controlled air-sealing technology that pressurizes the home, then atomizes a sealant that follows the airflow directly to leaks — closing gaps up to ½″ from the inside out, while measuring results in real time.
Why it matters
Air leakage is the single largest source of energy loss in most homes — and the leading cause of drafts, hot and cold rooms, dust infiltration, and humidity problems. Conventional caulk-and-tape air sealing relies on the installer finding every leak by hand. AeroBarrier finds them automatically and proves the result with a live blower-door reading. The home isn’t finished until the target number is hit.

From leaky to remarkably tight.
ACH50 — air changes per hour at 50 pascals — is the standard measure of a building’s tightness. Lower is better. Code-built homes typically test between 3 and 7 ACH50; Passive House certification requires 0.6. Here is what we have delivered for fellow builders in Southeast Michigan.
“The install went very well. The crew was professional, diligent, and great to work with. I was shocked that they were able to achieve a sub-1 ACH — that was unthinkable at our original 16 ACH. I would recommend your company and the service to anyone — we will be calling you guys for our future projects.”
“Veritas brought building science to our project from start to finish. The result speaks for itself — a home that exceeds Passive House airtightness, with a build process that was clear, careful, and on schedule.”
A green build is a series of right decisions, made early.
The earlier we are involved, the more performance we can build into the home for the same investment. Our process is designed to make every dollar work harder.
Discovery conversation
We start with a conversation about your project, priorities, and what “green” means to you — energy bills, comfort, health, durability, certifications, or all of the above.
Design integration
We work alongside your architect to align the home’s orientation, envelope, mechanicals, and material strategy before drawings are finalized.
Build & verify
Our team executes with precision — quality-controlled framing, careful air sealing, AeroBarrier installation, and on-site testing throughout construction.
Commission & deliver
Final blower-door, balanced ventilation, system commissioning, and a documented performance report — so you know exactly what you own.
Programs and standards we build to.
What homeowners ask us first.
Does a green home cost more to build?
It depends on what you compare it to. A high-performance home costs slightly more than a code-minimum home up front — but considerably less to operate, and it’s far more durable. Decisions made early in design typically deliver the most performance per dollar, which is why we encourage clients to involve us before drawings are finalized.
Do we have to pursue a formal certification?
Not at all. Many of our clients want the comfort, efficiency, and durability of a Passive House or ENERGY STAR home without the paperwork. Others pursue full certification for resale or personal goals. Either path is welcome — we build to verified performance regardless.
Can you retrofit AeroBarrier into an existing home?
Yes. AeroBarrier works on new construction, gut remodels, additions, and even occupied homes that have been temporarily prepared. We’ll do a walkthrough first to determine the best approach for your project.
Will a green home feel different than a conventional one?
Most clients notice it within the first day — quieter rooms, even temperatures floor to ceiling, no drafts at outlets or windows, and air that simply feels fresh. The differences become more obvious in extreme weather, when a tight, well-insulated, properly-ventilated home shines.
Ready to build a healthier, higher-performing home?
Whether you’re early in your design process or evaluating builders for a new project, we’d welcome the chance to talk through your goals and what’s possible. There’s no pressure and no obligation — just a conversation about your home.
